Each year in late June the school holds the Lantern Walk. This event marks the winter solstice; the midst of winter, the day of the shortest sunlight hours and the longest night.
As a school that embraces food gardening, it is important for us to be aware of the cycle of seasons and its impact on nature. The seasons are deeply connected to our pace, routines and tasks in the garden.
On Lantern Walk night, families and school community members gather to share a meal and walk through the school grounds and adjoining forest carrying lanterns, symbolically summoning back the light to the earth.
It is a magical event that gives us an opportunity to nuture our connectedness as a community and ‘give-back' to the many parents and friends that support and enrich the life of our school.
